In explaining the existence of Black & Tan colour like Rottweiler found in American Cane Corso, it was claimed by so-called corso-connoisseurs that:

-  All mastiff breeds are descendants of the Black & Tan Tibetan Mastiff;

-  The genes that contribute to Black & Tan coat colour in Tibetan Mastiff must have been there for all the mastiff breeds;

-  Corso is one of the mastiff breeds;

-  So Black & Tan Rottweiler colour will and have showed up in Corso.

This simple 3-stage logic is seemingly implacable in implying the existence of Black & Tan Rottweiler colour American Cane Corso is normal and to be expected.

In addition, an article on black & tan colour in Pit Bull Terriers by Ed Faron on web site of Wildside Kennels was often quoted by these so-called corso-connoisseurs as support to the above ‘Tibetan Mastiff’ logic of Black and Tan American Cane Corso.

However:

Mastino Napoletano, a mastiff breed, is the close ‘cousin’ of Corso, being also descending from the Roman Canis Pugnaces. Is there Mastino Napoletano with Black & Tan Rottweiler colour? - NONE.

Dogue de Bordeaux and the Old English Mastiff are all mastiff breeds. Are there Dogue de Bordeau and Old English Mastiff showing Black & Tan Rottweiler colour? - NEVER HEARD OF.

WHY is it then the Black & Tan Rottweiler colour ONLY like to show up in American Cane Corso?

‘Tibetan Mastiff is the ancestor of all mastiff breeds’ is at best just an unproven assumption. What evidences are there to support that the Tibetan Mastiff is the ancestor of all mastiff breeds?

Are there archaeological findings and palaeontological evidences? - NONE.

Are there historical documents and any antique art forms? - NONE.

Further, this article by Ed Faron of Wildside Kennel is put up in response to those that have ignorantly referred to black and tan Pit Bull Terriers as “crossdogs”. This, according to Ed Faron, is false.

The 4 breeds: American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Bull Terrier, are very close cousins, all descended in part from the very same foundation animals. They have always come in this colour pattern. It might not be popular or favoured today. But has always existed. The Bull Terrier is probably one seen most commonly in tri-colour pattern.

Comparing black and tan in terriers has ZERO bearing on Black and Tan in the Corsi or any other mastiff to which this colour is not natural.

…..

So unless your point was to argue that the black and tan was not introduced through Rottweiler blood...but rather from Terriers, then it was pointless to discuss inheritance of coat colour in Terriers.

…..

It's like arguing why Dalmatians are spotted to point out why some US dogs are black and tan. Simply no relation to the subject.’ (Posted by Tracy on Cane Corso Bulletin Board 10/9/2002, 6:06:48, in reply to "To paul, official of CCMCC - Re: link for Hu Song")

Thus the ‘Tibetan Mastiff’ rationale justifying the Black & Tan Rottweiler colour American Cane Corso has no validity at all.

Is it purposely put up to mislead and misinform?
