Dott. Flavio Bruno is a countryside veterinarian from St. Croce di Magliano. He was one of the pioneers of the breed when recovery of the breed started in early ’80s. In the heart of Molise where Dott. Bruno grew up and today works as veterinarian, the Corso Italiano was just as normal a sight as horses and donkeys and olive trees. Knowing the breed all way back from childhood, Dott. Flavio Bruno has a personal knowledge of the Corso Italiano, in a way that all of us can only dream of.

There are those American ‘corso-connoisseurs’ who have suddenly become steep in Italian culture and cane corso tradition after some 1 to 2 weeks short trips in Italy. Some of them had visited Dott. Flavio Bruno, with translators of course. And after, there were fictitious statements and lies. Dott. Flavio Bruno was quoted stating what he had never said.

As an example, one of such American ‘corso-connoisseurs’ after taking trips to Italy made these statements below:

"He didn't blink twice about knowing Mike Sottile and where he got his dogs from" and

"We have the word of the noted Corso historian, Fabio Briuno that states he remembers Mike gathering up dogs all over southern Italy. Mr. Bruino gave us the name of one of the farmers Sottlie got dogs from. I wrote it down!!"

The contributors to this page have spoken to Dott. Flavio Bruno in person and without the aid of a translator. This question was directly asked to Dott.Bruno. Below is his denial of ever saying such things.

Translation:

"Dearest Canadian and American friends. I have never stated that I knew Mike Sottile nor was I ever present in any of the provincial zones of Sicily where he obtained his subjects from. This misunderstanding could most probably be due to the improper translation by Carosio.  I simply said that antique cane corso were present years ago and can still be found today alongside shepherds and ranchers, ect.

Flavio Bruno "
