The first Italian national convention on Cane
Corso was held on June 16 & 17, 1990 at Civitella Alfedena in Italy. The
proceedings of this meeting were published by L’ORSA 1990 under the book title
‘IL Cane Corso Caratteristiche e contributi per la definizione dello
standard’.
The front cover page of this 1990 IL Cane
Corso book is a dog with chain. There is no caption for this cover page
in this book regarding the name of this dog, its owner and its breeder.
And as usual without any supporting evidence claimed
these so called Corso-connoisseurs in the US: ‘The dog on the cover of the
first Cane Corso book written in 1990 was a dog named Nerone, who was owned by
Michael Sottile until the day he died but he never told anyone where he got
Nerone’.
The agenda of such claim by these so-called
corso-connoisseurs in the US is aimed to add credence to the imports by Sottile
Sr. However, since there is no caption for this cover page stating the name of
the dog and owner, without supporting evidence, isn’t it that anyone can claim
any name regarding this dog and its owner?
The same picture appeared in an SACC monograph
titled ‘Testimonianze Visive e Grafiche Di Un Amico Ritrovato: “IL Corso”
(1536 - e la storia continua - 1993)’ by Dott. Flavio Bruno and Sig. Giovanni
Tumminelli published 1994, under the section ‘Anni dal 1930 al 1960 ca’,
or Year 1930s to 1960s. Caption of this picture says ‘Esemplare rustico
(Foto Indiveri) Bari’ ie. exemplary rustic corso from Bari (Indiveri’s
Photo).
Is this cover page dog of the L’ORSA book
really the dog Nerone owned by Sottile Sr. as claimed? No evidence known. But
if it were, wouldn’t Nerone be entitled an entry to the Guinness Records for
longevity?
